Cheryl Lee

YSEALI Academic Fellowship Program, United States, 2017

Cheryl Lee is an environmentalist and works closely with the community on environmental sustainability education and gender equality issues. She is the community engagement manager for #Up2degrees, founder of C thy World and co- founder of EcoRiseBucket. She represented youth in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties. There, she discussed pressing issues of inequality, climate change, and sustainability. In the most recent conference, she collaborated with various foreign environment ministries and NGOs to amplify and exchange perspectives.

Cheryl was also invited to share her environmental experiences and knowledge at various conferences such as the Global Compact Network Solutions (GCNS) Conference, Green is The New Black (GITNB) Conscious Festival, and the ADB environmental youth mapping and green business conference, where she represented the youth of Asia and the Pacific. She has received various awards for her work in environmental sustainability and on environmental issues. Cheryl is an alumna of the YSEALI Fellowship Program which focused on youth leadership in environmental issues. During the program, she met with environmental stakeholders from across the United States and created prototypes to benefit communities in Asia.

Alvona Zi Hui Loh

Alvona Zi Hui Loh is a doctor with four years of experience in Singapore. She is currently a junior doctor under the Ministry of Health (Holdings). Her primary scope of work is clinical and involves direct patient care, but she also conducts academic work including cross-sectional and meta-analysis research studies to answer public health problems. Some of her works have been published in journals including Global Health Action and the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association.


Alvona is an alumna of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in the Women's Leadership Academy and Professional Fellows Program. She obtained her bachelor's degree in medicine from the National University of Singapore and is pursuing her master's degree in applied neuroscience at King's College London.

Melissa Low

YSEALI Professional Fellows Program, United States, 2016

Melissa Low is a research fellow at the Energy Studies Institute, National University of Singapore (NUS). She has participated in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of Parties (COP) for over a decade and is an active sustainability thought leader, authoring, publishing, and presenting at various forums. She is the Designated Contact Point for NUS's accreditation to the UNFCCC and serves on the nine-member Steering Committee of the Research and Independent Non-Governmental Organisation (RINGO) Constituency under the UNFCCC. Melissa provides policy analyses and conducts workshops for various stakeholders to improve understanding of the implications of the Paris Agreement and countries' progress in meeting their climate pledges. Her current research focus is on the transparency of climate action and reporting in Southeast Asia.


Melissa holds an LL.M. in climate change law and policy (with distinction) from the University of Strathclyde, an M.Sc. in environmental management, and a B.S. (Hons) in geography from NUS. For her master's thesis on past and contemporary proposals on equity and differentiation in shaping the 2015 climate agreement, Melissa was awarded the Shell Best Dissertation Award 2013. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at the NUS Department of Geography.


In 2021, Melissa was conferred the NEA EcoFriend Award and the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) for her contributions towards environmental sustainability, climate change awareness, and impact on youth. She serves as a member of the Climate Action SG Alliance, is an advisory committee member for the MSE SG Eco Fund, a council member of the 16th National Youth Council and Committee, and a member of the Speak Good English Movement. She is also chief curator of the National Youth Council Young ChangeMakers Programme and a panellist on the Speak Good English Movement Programmes Evaluation Panel. Melissa is a member of the International Civil Aviation Organisation's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) Long Term Aspirational Goal Task Group (LTAG-TG).


Melissa is an alumna of the YSEALI Professional Fellows Program.
