Huong Thi Chu

Fulbright Foreign Student Program, United States, 2017

Huong Thi Chu is a medical doctor and epidemiologist with over eight years of experience in infectious disease control and prevention in public health. She has extensive experience conducting cutting-edge research, understanding infectious disease trends, and evaluating the impact of interventions. Currently Huong works at Family Health International (FHI) 360 as a senior project officer..


Prior to joining FHI 360, Huong served as a technical advisor for the COVID-19 unit in the Rhode Island Department of Health where she trained and mentored epidemiologists and data scientists to provide analytical and technical support for the COVID-19 response. Additionally, she served as the project coordinator lead at the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts, advising the COVID-19 taskforce in Vietnam.


Huong is an alumna of the Fulbright Foreign Student program. During her Master of Public Health program Huong interned with the University of Washington's Center for Health and the Global Environment (CHanGE) on a six-month practicum project focusing on climate change and health in the Federated State of Micronesia (FSM). She holds a medical degree from the Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy and an MPH from the University of Washington. Huong will begin her Ph.D. program in health metrics sciences at the University of Washington in September 2022.

Tuan Nguyen

YSEALI Academic Fellowship Program, United States, 2019

After obtaining a doctoral degree in Medicine, Tuan worked as a reproductive endocrinologist and andrologist at the Hospital of Post and Telecommunication in Hanoi, Vietnam. In 2019, he participated in the YSEALI Academic Fellowship on the theme of Environmental Issues in Hawaii.


Throughout his undergraduate life, he organized numerous programs to raise people's awareness about public health issues such as safe intercourse and the harmful effects of tobacco and alcohol. He also worked on many projects to educate students about wildlife conservation, reducing the use of single-use plastic items, and the replacement of fauna by flora in traditional medicine. Tuan has demonstrated his determination to improve the lives of vulnerable people on many occasions; every summer he leads his medical team to participate in free counseling trips for rural citizens, providing medical assistance for people in flooded areas.

Quy Van Pham

YSEALI Academic Fellowship Program, United States, 2017

Quy Van Pham, a pharmacist and a YSEALI alumnus, is passionate about sustainable healthcare development on non-communicable diseases. Graduating from the YSEALI Academic Fellow program, he energetically led the YESS project relating to social entrepreneurship empowerment in central Vietnam, incubating some healthcare initiatives for university students. Furthermore, Quy facilitated various sessions in the 2022 YSEALI Regional Workshop on Enhancing Human Capital in Health, using his expertise to support ASEAN youths to sharpen their healthcare innovation ideas. Currently, Quy is working as an associate brand manager for AstraZeneca in the Vietnam market, leading a team to work with global healthcare stakeholders andprofessionals to launch a new oncology treatment for early lung cancer patients. In his current role, he also developed some patient affordability programs for cancer treatment financial assistance and created various initiatives on early lung cancer detection and cancer patient education.

Quy's passion is to develop and strengthen his sustainable healthcare networks for cancer burden mitigation in the ASEAN region. Networks play an irreplaceable role in succeeding in early cancer detection for communities. The networks vary from healthcare professionals to communication specialists or social workers who can work together to conduct a wide range of steps.
